Team talk: “A feeling of satisfaction you can’t buy”

Lukasz Mart, Head of Crew

Lukasz understands that a career with us offers amazing opportunities. He was new to crewing when he joined us in 2007 – and now he’s our Head of Crew.

‘As long as they’re passionate, people can learn here,’ he says. ‘The training starts on day one, right after the interview. And on site, people learn through experience. We have regular reviews – so, if someone wants to learn a skill, then they can tell us and we’ll try to find jobs for them where they can develop that skill. And we run advanced training for things like carpentry, rigging and truss.’

Now, as a senior member of the team, Lukasz has all kinds of responsibilities. ‘No day is the same,’ he says. ‘In the morning I might be doing a site visit, making sure everyone is on time and meeting the client’s expectations. I have tickets to operate machinery, so I can oversee that work on site, maybe on the cherry picker or the telescopic forklift. And in the afternoon I might be back in the office, writing reports, doing interviews, or running training. It’s never boring!’

Lukasz knows he’s exactly where he wants to be. And he believes Connection Crew is a great place for young people to build a career: ‘You see these amazing venues – museums, stadiums. And you work with the people who create these amazing events. Doing the build, and hours later seeing so many people enjoying it – it’s a feeling of satisfaction you can’t buy.’
